Social Enterprise World Forum 2013 Enters Into ‘First-of-Its-Kind’ Agreement To Share Proceeds

Social Enterprise World Forum 2013 Enters Into ‘First-of-Its-Kind’ Agreement To Share Proceeds

Pledge Seeks to Serve Canada’s Social Enterprise Movement

Already an historic collaborative event, the 2013 Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) is setting another first as event host Trico Charitable Foundation has agreed to share all proceeds from the event.

“Hosting SEWF 2013 has never been about making money for the Trico Foundation,” said Wayne Chiu, Chairman of the Trico Charitable Foundation. “This agreement embodies everything we wanted SEWF 2013 to be about: serving the social enterprise movement, at the event and beyond; fostering collaboration; and trying new ideas.”

This is the first time a SEWF host has entered into an agreement like this. It is also the first time SEWF has been hosted in Canada.

All proceeds will be reinvested into the social enterprise sector in three ways:

  • One-third will go to the Social Enterprise Council of Canada (SECC),
  • One-third will go to the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing, and
  • One-third will go to a pool of funds where SECC, MaRS, SiG and the Trico Foundation will jointly decide on additional projects to advance social enterprise in Canada.

SEWF 2013 is seeking to build on previous successful events, SECC’s Canadian Conference on Social Enterprise and the MaRS Social Finance Forum, and this agreement will help support their continuation.

Not only will the third stream target additional projects to serve Canada’s social enterprise movement, it will help continue the collaboration between the four organizations that has arisen during the planning and execution of SEWF 2013.

What’s more, Trico Charitable Foundation will match all proceeds going into the third stream.

“The SECC is about creating opportunities to strengthen local social enterprise impact, SEWF while a very important event, it’s our ongoing engagement in building a solid ecosystem for social enterprise that is so critical. Sharing any proceeds will be a valuable investing in furthering those efforts,” David LePage, a member of the SECC, added.
